  • Encryption
  • Physical control (e.g., CD-ROM)
  • Controlling end-user usage

  • "Containers" or "boxes", e.g., Adobe Acrobat Reader, Liquid Audio, InterTrust
  • Streaming formats
  • Low resolutions (e.g., thumbnails or digital watermarks)
  • While a Fair Use arguement is a complex one, employing efforts such as these would support and strengthen a Fair Use case.
