MetroFile is a database of articles from local newspapers and magazines on architecture, infrastructure, and the built environment in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. The articles are chosen because of their local focus and their potential or known interest to the community of the New Jersey Institute of Technology School of Architecture.

The MetroFile database is not meant to be a definitive list of all such articles and is not meant to replace the need to search commercial indexes. Other resources researchers should employ include the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, the New Jersey Room at the Newark Public Library (which, among other things, indexes the Newark Star-Ledger), and the web-searchable index to the Newark Star-Ledger (though you'll have to pay) at www.nj.com/archive.

The creator, administrator, programmer, and indexer of MetroFile is Jim Robertson, Director of the Architecture Library and Director of Library Technology. The database's raw data is in a Microsoft Access database and is served to the web using Allaire's ColdFusion software.

The MetroFile name and logo has been in active use by the Architecture Library at the New Jersey Institute of Technology since 2000.
